Born in Chavantes, Brazil in 1923, Geraldo de Barros was a painter, photographer and designer. His active years as a furniture designer started in the mid 1950’s when he founded the company Unilabor in 1954. The manufacture became the first communitarian business in modern Brazilian history as it was managed by its employees and all benefits were shared equally between them.
This sofa is a very early creation from 1955. It combines a geometric rigor influenced by the Concrete art movement and traditional Brazilian cabinet making through the use of rosewood.
