Iconic design by Danish designer Bodil Kjaer, this stunning desk in rosewood was created in 1959. Manufactured by E. Pedersen & Son in Denmark, it was designed in the context of a flexible working environment for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This model was the first to offer a deeply simplistic design with clear and pure lines. The rectangular wooden top, composed of four storage drawers, appears to be floating above the metal structure.
One of Kjaer’s masterpieces, this desk was called “the most beautiful desk in the world” and was published in the New York Times and the Sunday Times in the 1960’s. It also became increasingly famous as it was widely used in movies: it was featured in three James Bond movies and, more recently, in the Kingsman movie. It also appeared on television, in BBC election broadcasts. Celebrities such Michael Caine and pianist Oscar Peterson as well as Prince Phillip, duke of Edinburgh, owned this desk as part of their collection.
