French designer Philippe Starck created this tripod armchair with a stainless tubural steel structure and a perforated metal sheet as the seat in the early 1980s. His genuine and original intention was to eliminate the fourth leg of the chair that he considered a “redundancy”. According to Starck, the three-legged chair implies a greater attention and participation from the user. He also playfully stated that “swinging on a tripod is more dangerous, but more fun”.
