Norberto Nicolas was a prominent Brazilian tapestry artist, active alongside Gerardo de Carvalho, Jean Gillon or Jacques Douchez. With the latter, Nicola directed the Douchez-Nicola workshop between 1959 and 1980. The three-dimensional appearance of this work is characteristic of the aesthetic maturity of Norberto Nicola who sought to “stray away from the traditional idea of a plane representation”. Blending local natural fiber and wool, "Meandros" is made of organic forms that intertwine, creating a play of vacuum and full that gives the work an impressive sense of volume.
