This beautiful table was designed by George Nakashima in 1975 as a special commission for a private residence. For this piece, the designer combined his deep respect for the natural forms of the wood and his interest in Modernism. In his quest to give “the wood a second life”, Nakashima explored the organic expressiveness of trees by choosing boards with knots, burls and figured grain. Here, the solid geometrical base of the table is contrasting, yet perfectly harmonized, with the free-edged board on top.
