This table lamp was originally designed by Alvar Aalto for French art dealer Louis Carré's private house in Bazoches-sur-Guyonne (Yvelines), near Paris.
In the mid 1950’s, Louis Carré commissionned Alvar Aalto, whose reputation was starting to grow internationally, as his architect to build his new house. Aalto always saw his architectural projects as total works of art and the Maison Louis Carré was no exception. His designed furniture and light fixtures were always created as part of a broader architectural project, firstly intended for a specific use in a specific place.
